Our first activity was visiting the Colegio Americas Unidas, the Mennonite Brethren school in Cali.
The buildings are perhaps a little smaller than our school in La Mesa, but it has a nice children's playground!

In the conciliation room
The conciliators try to help students and teachers solve their problems through dialog.
English teacher Lino Córdoba was an IVEP participant with MCC a few years ago. He tutored Spanish students at EMU.
We stayed at the apartment of Chet and Holly Miller-Eshleman's (MCCers
in Cali), along with their three kids, and four other people! Here Chet
shares some yogurt with Abby and Adrian David (son of Bonnie, MCC's
country rep. for Colombia). |
Saturday we participated in a day-long workshop about AIDS.
Bonnie and Holly (not pictured) helped organize and run the event with
the help of members of the Anabaptist family in Cali and Bogotá.
Alix, head of the Mennonite seminary in Bogotá, led a powerful
reflection on Jesus' attitude toward the "untouchables" of his day. |
Saturday evening we celebrated Abby's second birthday. Here she's putting sprinkles on the cake Chet made.
Hmm, what to do with the leftover sprinkles?
Bonnie supervises as Adrian David and Abby jump on the couch.
Happy birthday!
Everyone waits expectantly for the cake.
Sam, Mary, and their neighbor Santiago dig in to the chocolate cake.
Abby shook with excitement when she saw the presents piled up for her.
It was a lesson in sharing for these two toddlers!
Pint-sized broom and dustpan for this little mamacita.
Sunday morning Abby tried on her new dress that Bonnie gave her.
That evening we visited this huge mall in Cali. It was already decorated for Christmas!
Aaron told Abby she could walk if she held someone's hand. She opted for Mary's.
Supermarket fun!
